MY FATHER'S VOICE
I heard my father
call out to me in a loving tender voice, “Noel Son!” . It was just a blur and I felt a heaviness in
my head. As my eyes cleared I could see
my father sitting next to my bed and calling to me “Noel son”.
This was in the end
of the month of December, 1963; when I
was just ten years old. I can’t remember
anything of what happened. But , I was
told that I had been playing with my two brothers on the terrace of our home in
Vadalur, Cuddalore TK South India. Dad
had gone to work and my mother had gone for her embroidery classes.
While playing on the
terrace of our home, I had jumped from the parapet onto the sunshade backwards,
missed my balance and hit the concrete slab below, head first and remained
unconscious for three days. It was the
evening of the third day that I heard the concerned and loving voice of my
father call to me. He held me and
kissed me.
There were other
times when I heard his voice too. But
the tone was different. I recognized
when my father was pleased with me and
when he was not so pleased. Though the
note changed, his love was always evident.
Just as I was
sensitive to my earthly father’s voice, God wants us to be sensitive to HIS
voice when HE speaks to us. In John
10:4 it is written “And when
he has brought out all his sheep, he walks ahead of them and they will
follow him, for they are familiar with his voice.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (TPT) says “Every
Scripture has been written by the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. It will
empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take
the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. Then
you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any
assignment God gives you.”
May we
all be sensitive to the voice of our Heavenly Father and become fully mature
and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives us.
